A Fine Dining Lodge in Cheltenham
The Manor of Ashley Lodge No 7831 was Consecrated on 1st June 1962, and was created by the Members of the Seven Springs Lodge No 7223, at a time when new candidates were plentiful.
The Warrant was granted on 14th March 1962, and the Consecration was held on 1st June 1962.
The Consecrating Officer was the R. W. Bro The Hon W. R. S. Bathhurst, Provincial Grand Master for Gloucestershire.
The first Master of the Lodge was W. Bro Rupert R Lewis, the Provincial Grand Treasurer.
In 1141 Queen Matilda came to the throne of England and rewarded her supporters with land.
A certain Walter of Ashley was given land to the value of £10 close to Cheltenham.
This became known as the Manor of Ashley (and is from where the Lodge took it’s name) but is now known as Charlton Kings.
The Lodge achieved a reputation as a Fine Dining Lodge, from its time meeting at the Moorend Park Hotel, from Consecration until the hotel was demolished in 1979, when the Lodge moved to Portland Street.
This reputation is one we endeavour to maintain.
